Kavos weather forecast by Cheaperholidays.com.Kavos enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long hot summers. Winters are a little cool and can be quite wet. Corfu is the wettest of the Greek islands and also the coolest on average.
SUMMER is a time of guaranteed sunshine. It isn’t quite as hot as many of the other Greek islands but daily highs of 30°C have helped to turn Kavos into the popular summer holiday destination it is today. Recent years have seen Kavos experience a number of intense heat waves when temperatures have risen up into the 40s. The hottest summer days are, however, tempered by the cooling sea breezes, making for comfortable temperatures. These winds are at their strongest in July and August when the Meltimi wind blows, which is welcome during the hot summer weather. Kavos is the most action-packed of Corfu island's resorts and is very popular with British under 25s, intent on having a good time. The long, narrow beach is far from the best in Corfu but offers lovely views over to the Greek mainland, lots of watersports and is fine for sleeping off the night before. Check the Corfu weather forecast Corfu weather in January: Cold, rainy & windy. There is a one-week period during January when the weather in this Greek island is generally good and the winds cease. Corfu weather in February: Slightly warmer & sunnier than January. The first trees to bloom. Weather in March: Usually cold & windy but there are many sunny days too. The first daring swimmers appear. Corfu weather in April: Spring time in Corfu with medium temperatures & low rainfall. Corfu is full of wildflowers. Corfu weather in May: Warm and sunny. Rain is unlikely to occur past May 10. The meltemi seasonal North winds have not yet started to blow, the sea is calm and nature is at its best. May is considered the best month for outdoors activities. A jacket will prove useful for the night. June: Sunny and hot. Time for the beach! Corfu weather in July and August: Windy and very hot. July and August are the months that the seasonal North winds blow. It is hard to do anything else during these months, than spend the entire day at the beach. Look for a shady place and drink plenty of water. Do not forget your hat and sunscreen. Corfu weather in September: Sunny, less windy and slightly cooler. Good for outdoors activities. Get a light jacket for the night, especially if you plan to visit any mountainous areas. Corfu weather in October: Sunny, very few windy days but some rain will fall. Good for outdoors activities. Warm clothes are rarely necessary. Corfu weather in November: The weather becomes unpredictable. It may be sunny but there are plenty of rainy and windy days too. Pack a sweater and don't forget your umbrella. Corfu weather in December: Conditions vary from year to year with a mixture of windy, calm, rainy, sunny, cold and warm days. Pack warm clothes together with your swimming suit. There are days when the temperature along the south coast makes swimming possible and pleasurable. ------------------------------------------------------------ Those looking for a less hectic holiday, but still within reach of the nightlife in Kavos, should stay in the neighbouring resort of Aghios Petros, one mile (2km) to the north. Shopping: The shopping in Kavos is limited to souvenir and 'bucket and spade' shops selling the usual tourist tat including some (often quite good) fake designer labels. For more choice, there are regular buses to Corfu Town (half an hour away), which has an excellent range of shops. Good buys include gold, leather, lace, ceramics and silver. For self-caterers, there are a few mini-markets that supply the essentials, including cheap alcohol and cigarettes. Restaurants: There are a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and fast food joints, but most offer a similar menu catering for the unadventurous British palette. Nightlife: Kavos is the top party destination in Greece and is crammed full of bars and clubs. Popular bars include Snobs and Scorers but the Rollin Stone is a good option for those who need a change from the constant beat of R&B and Garage music; it plays 60s, 70s and 80s classics and is always packed. Good nightclubs include the Limelight, Venue and Future-Atlantis. Activities: The sea around Kavos is warm and shallow and ideal for swimming and watersports, which can be arranged from the beach. Popular excursions include a visit to the nearby aqua park and boat trips around the scenic coast. Those with a taste for culture should make the trip to the island's historic capital, Corfu Town, which is packed with interesting archaeological sights. Also, the interior of Corfu is worth exploring for those looking for some tranquillity; it remains very unspoilt and uncrowded even during the peak season. Negatives: The nightlife and entertainment in Kavos is geared for 18-30s, so families would do better to stay well clear of the main strip. This area also attracts touts from far afield. The salesmen outside the bars and restaurants are very pushy but can be worth chatting up as they offer free drinks, but beware of the double measures. Visitors should avoid the Albanian gypsies selling flowers and glow bangles, or keep a very close eye on their wallets. The beach in Kavos is not great and is sometimes covered in litter and seaweed, however it offers safe swimming and lots of watersports. Mosquitoes can be a problem over the summer and the local shops sell various types of repellent. Mopeds are a great way to get around the local area, but tourists should be aware that they also put scores of people into hospital each year. Back to holiday weather forecasts.
