The holiday resorts of Foca, Cesme and Kusadasi are the main destinations for arrivals into Izmir/Adnan Menderes airport.

Cesme is centred around its charming fishing village but manages to maintain its traditional appeal. The beaches are generally small coves - very quiet and relaxing. Kusadasi has in recent years developed into one of Turkey's liveliest and most cosmopolitan resorts. The town offers a good selection of bazaar market stalls, to shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and lively nightclubs to spend the dark hours. Beaches are either just outside the town easily reached by the traditional Dolmus or the man-made beach near the harbour.
Places to Visit.
Cesme Castle - The castle was built in 1508 by the Ottoman Sultan Bayazit II. Here you'll find all the characteristics of the Ottoman Architecture. Archeological displays of items found at Erythrai are to be found inside the castle.
Cesme Hot Springs - This is a very interesting place to visit. Located on the coast near the Cesme Hot Springs Beach on the Izmir-Cesme road 5 kilometers from Cesme. The temperature of the water is 58C which contains sodium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium chloride. For those who suffer from chronic rheumatism, poor metabolism, gout, obesity, rickets, skin conditions, gynecological disorders, liver and urinary tract conditions, the water is said to be very good. Modern facilities can definitely be found in the vicinity of the hot springs. You will never be without transport as Cesme buses are provided and they leave from Uckuyular.
Food: Turkey takes great pride in its food and you'll generally eat better in Turkey than in neighbouring Greece. The locals food made up mainly of seafood. The best seafood dish is the sea bass, bream, octopus and oysters. Other delicacies is the "seker isi" which is served with a very special fig jam, "kuru sikma" is a flat wrapped bread, goose drumsticks, almond milk and a grilled sandwich called "kumru" is also very enjoyable. Artichokes and melons is also a favourite and is exported all over the world. The size of Izmir means you'll have a far wider choice of eating options than in the coastal resorts.
Nightlife: Izmir's nightlife revolves around the lively waterfront area.
Shopping: Izmir has very large bazaar, offering the widest possible variety of local items. The classic is the Turkish carpet. Do expect to pay for quality (check the dye doesn't come off on your fingers), good work does not come cheap.
Days out: From Izmir it's just a 50-Km coach ride to Ephesus, Europe's best-preserved Roman city. Prepare to be amazed at the sheer scale of the place. Unsurprisingly it's a huge tourist attraction and a very hot one in the middle of the day in high summer.
