Antalya is used for reaching resorts on the coast's eastern side. It offers access to three sandy beaches and the one pebbly public beach with excellent watersporting faciities plus the 'moonlight beach,' where the smell of the citrus groves at moonlight provides the most romantic setting. Also the marina where you can sit and watch the many fantastic yachts come and go. Whilst sitting at one of the many waterfront cafe's and restaurants.
"Travellers should dress respectfully (no shorts / swimwear) when entering a religious building of any kind. It is advisable for women to cover their arms, knees and shoulders at all times when away from beach areas, as well as their heads when entering a mosque. "
The resorts of Side and Belek are closest to Antalya airport. Side is well known for its excellent choice of water sports and the blue flag beaches. An excellent place to spend the days in the sunshine. A reasonable selection of shops, bars and restaurants add to the overall appeal. There is also still a little evidence of its local history with an Amphitheatre and two 2nd century temples.
Antalya
Belek on the other hand is a new resort, specially built for holidaymakers. However the development has managed to maintain the area's beauty and the historical temples and Roman ruins whilst offering the typical beach holiday requirements.
Food: Turkey takes great pride in its food and you'll generally eat better in Turkey than in neighbouring Greece. The best options will be found either in the larger coastal towns, or you may come across the occasional gem of a tiny family-run establishment especially in Kemer where tourism is intermingled with local cafe's and restaurants adding a more local feel.
Nightlife: Antalya offers the eastern Coast's liveliest nightlife, with lots of bars and clubs serving the local firewater 'raki' to get you fired up for the night ahead.
Shopping: Shopping options can be limited on the Turquoise Coast ,Why not go further afield on a day trip to Fethiye, Antalya or Kas. Shopping is definately 'cheap' compared to its neighbouring countries, haggling is expected and definately take a day trip to a local maket in search of some real bargains!!
Days out: Close to the central town of Fethiye are the ancient ruins of Lycian Telmessos. Dalyan Beach on the western coast has an internationally famous beach that provides a breeding ground for the loggerhead turtle. There are diving schools in Bodrum, Fethiye and Marmaris all offering PADI & BSAC courses and extra dives for the more qualified diver.
