As a holiday destination Antigua offers a superb climate, plus sun-worshippers will appreciate a visit to Antigua's many palm fringed white sandy beaches on offer at this reasonably-priced Caribbean island. Warm, steady winds, an interesting coastline with safe harbours, and a protective wall of coral reef. A holiday to Antigua has everyything you could wish for.
The characteristics which persuaded Admiral Nelson to choose Antigua as the base for Great Britain’s Caribbean Fleet in 1784 , now make it one of the Caribbean's most sought-after holiday destinations.
Antigua (pronounced An-tee-ga) and Barbuda are located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. Antigua is about 14 miles (23km) long and 11 miles (18km) wide, almost twice the size of Barbuda, the flat coral island 30 miles (48km) due north. The nation also includes the tiny uninhabited island of Redonda, now a nature reserve.
Its clear waters provide excellent swimming, sailing and diving facilities.
The most westerly of the the Caribbean islands, Antigua as a holiday destination has the best of all-year sunshine. However, with a limited amount of rainfall, it's less lush than its neighbours. This does mean, though, that the Antigua weather is rarely humid.
