Tunisia holiday guide and weather
Visas are required by New-zealand passport holders..

Tunisia holidays - Most holidays in Tunisia are taken in the main holiday resorts of Hammamet, Skanes, Sousse and Port el Kantaoui, where the 800 miles of coast with white sandy Mediterranean beaches offer ample opportunity for sunbathing, swimming diving and sailing.

Golf holidays in Tunisia are increasingly popular with several good courses.
Graced with long white beaches, hot summers and mild winters Tunisia makes an ideal Summer or winter sun destination. Tunisia also benefits from numerous historical sites, such as The Coliseum at Edjem, and Medina packed with traders who absolutely do expect you to haggle.

Monastir will be very familiar to anyone who's seen Monty Python's Life of Brian, which made the most of the areas picturesque locations. The quiet evenings suit families and couples best.

Always dress respectfully when visiting religious buildings or monuments. Watch out for thieves and pickpockets - especially in the market areas - and carry cash and valuables in a money belt or inner pocket.

Tunisia is a land of constant sunshine and warm water. The height of summer is a little too hot for most tastes, so July and August are regarded as 'off-season'.

Between October and May is a more comfortable time to visit, with temperatures ranging between 54°F and 82°F (12°C and 28°C). Springtime (March to May) brings displays of wild flowers throughout the countryside.

Food: French couscous or brochettes (grilled meat) are popular, as are chakchouka (hot vegetables) and ojja (a spicy mix of tomato and egg).

You could risk a boukha, the local poison, but wine and beer are very cheap.

Tunisia holiday resorts
Hammamet is still Tunisia’s number one resort. Careful planning ensures the environment is preserved with building restricted to the height of the surrounding palm trees. Stylish and luxurious hotels lie along the golden beaches of the Cap Bon peninsula on either side of Hammamet. The centre itself features a shopping centre, good restaurants, cafes and bars.

Sousse The holiday resort extends along the coastal road for a number of miles and consists of many properties from 2* apartments to 5* luxury hotels, many with their own spas and private reserved sections of beach. The white sand beach stretches for approximately 8km to the neighbouring resort of Port El Kantaoui.

Skanes The resort of Skanes with its seemingly endless sandy beach has been welcoming British holidaymakers for many years. As a suburb of its more famous neighbour Monastir, Skanes is ideal for holidaymakers seeking a relaxing beach holiday.

Port El Kantaoui One could be forgiven for imagining that the quaint blue and white village of Port El Kantaoui had been built as a Hollywood stage set and simply uprooted and plonked down on the Tunisian coast, flanked by two long stretches of perfect clean sandy beaches. In fact, this is not far from the truth: El Kantaoui is a chic, purpose-built resort, which owes nothing to history, but everything to catering for the up-market tourist, seeking leisurely luxury in an enchanting setting. The El Kantaoui complex is built around a modern marina, which can accommodate more than 300 vessels, most of them moored by millionaires.

Nightlife: Traditional nights out include enjoying Arabian feasts and floorshows, whilst those hoping for something more Western will find bars, cafes and the occasional disco.

Shopping: Thursday markets at Hammamet and Sidi Bou Said are famous for their exotic bird cages, leather, copper, pottery and carpets.

Days out: Haggle down at the markets at Hammamet, Sousse and Monastir, take a tour of Tunis, Sidi Bou Said or Carthage. But if you do nothing else, you must experience one of the spectacular Bedouin feast's on offer

Sport: Golf being the obvious attraction to most, yet scuba diving and every other water sport is available along the beach.
