Grenada is a rolling mountainous island ringed with miles of entrancing black and sugar-fine white sand beaches for those wishing to soak up the sun. The island's capital St George one of the loveliest in the Caribbean makes a picturesque break from the beaches.

Average temperatures range from 24C/ 75F to 30C/ 87F, tempered by the steady and cooling trade winds. The lowest temperatures occur between November and February.
Because of Grenada's remarkable topography, the island also experiences climate changes according to altitude.
The driest season is between January and May. Even during the rainy season, from June to December, it rarely rains for more than an hour at a time and generally not every day.
Christopher Columbus discovered Grenada in 1498. The island was already inhabited by the Carib Indians, who had migrated from the South American mainland, killing or enslaving the peaceful Arawaks who where already inhabiting the island. The Amerindians called their island Camerhogue, but Columbus renamed the island Concepcion.
However,passing Spanish sailors found its lush green hills so evocative of Andalusia that they rejected this name in favor of Granada.
The French then called it La Grenade, and the British followed suit, changing Grenade to Grenada (pronounced Gre-nay-da).
Food: Seafood lovers will enjoy the fresh fish from the grill. The more adventurous might like to try Grenadian home cooking from local restaurants with a cooling fresh fruit juice. French Creole and Caribbean food is also widely available.
Nightlife: Grenada is not a party island. St George is a quiet town; a steel band plays at the Grand Anse a couple of times a week. Visit the disco Morne Rouge for some more lively entertainment.
Shopping: The colourful Saturday morning market is a must see for all visitors to the island. There are superb shopping opportunities; boutiques to authentic Grenadan crafts.
Days out: Grenada has two sister islands, take a boat tour and see their very different landscapes and pristine reefs. The island is covered with fragrant spice trees and rare tropical flowers.
