Barbados holiday deals

A holiday to Barbados means you are on a island that is just a 30 kilometre long, which has superb sugar-white sandy beaches, that gently lead into the most beautiful and clear turquoise sea on its South and West shores, on the north coast you get bracing Atlantic breakers and a breathtaking coast line.

Inland you get a mixture of green fields and hundreds of sugar plantations surrounded by small traditional colourful houses and churches. The reggae and steel drums can always be heard.

Sport: there are three golf courses and a variety of sports including water sports diving & sailing and land based sports including mountain biking widely available here as they are elsewhere in the Caribbean.

When should I go?

Barbados is a year-round holiday destination. Christmas and New Year are relatively rain-free and therefore the most popular. Temperatures range from 70F-83F (21C-28C). February and May are the driest months and July is the wettest with an average of 18 days rain.

Barbados Holiday resorts
St James
The idyllic picture-postcard beach resort of St James is located on that most desired Caribbean island, Barbados. With clean white sand that slopes gently into shallow clear-blue waters, holidaymakers can experience a luxurious stay in surroundings that are rich with natural beauty, in purpose-built accommodation often only metres from the soft soothing waves of the sea.

St Peter
Unwind amidst peaceful, scenic surroundings in tranquil St. Peter, with its beautiful beaches and calm seas. Tennis, golf and glass-bottom boat trips are available and there are shops, bars and restaurants in nearby Speightstown.

St Lawrence
For plenty of action look no further. This resort boasts the islands biggest concentration of restaurants and bars and brilliant nightlife, particularly along St Lawrence Gap, which can be noisy (be prepared for street traders). The wide sandy beach offers watersports.

Rockley
Watersports enthusiasts are particularly well catered for on Rockley's excellent sandy beach (be prepared for beach traders). The resort itself features a wide range of restaurants and shops and, with plenty of bars, is lively by night.

Hastings
This centrally located resort has plenty of amenities, including a good choice of restaurants, shops, wine bars and bars with live music. The sea here is very calm.

Maxwell
Perfect for a quiet holiday, the peaceful resort of Maxwell is set on a sandy beach with watersports. Restaurants, shops and nightlife can be found in St Lawrence, 2km away.

Silver Sands
Perfect for a laid-back beach holidays, this resort offers real peace amidst abundant natural beauty. The beach is popular with windsurfers.

Dining out; there are numerous high quality restaurants practically everywhere. Fresh fish is abundant and usually excellent, and the local rum most certainly deserves a try.

Days out: Why not take a Catamaran Cruise or a helicopter ride and see the whole of the island. Or take a trip in a submarine to explore the many hidden reefs and coral and fish within their natural habitat. Or for those who like cricket why not visit the famous Kensington Oval at Bridgetown.

Shopping: Good buys are locally produced rum and locally made crafts such as pottery, woven baskets and crafts made from coconut shell.
There are duty free shops in Bridgetown and are only open 08.00-18.00 Monday to Saturday.
