Cheap direct travel - Travel abroad advice & consumer issues

Travel abroad advice & consumer issuesTravel abroad advice: The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) allows you to access state-provided travel health care in all European Economic Area (EEA) countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or sometimes free of charge.

Which is a travel abroad consumer issue you should be aware of.

Apply for your European Health insurance card now.

Travel abroad advice: However The EHIC is NOT an alternative to travel insurance. It will not cover any private medical health care or the cost of things such as mountain rescue in ski resorts, repatriation to the UK or lost or stolen property.

For these reasons and others, it is important to have both an EHIC and a valid private travel insurance policy. Some insurers now insist you hold an EHIC and many will waive the excess if you have one.

Allow plenty of time for the visa to arrive as sometimes the application is dealt with in the country being visited.

To get a visa, you will usually have to complete a form and send off your passport. You may also have to send passport photographs, air tickets, and evidence that you can support yourself while abroad. A fee may be charged for the visa.
