Price comparison sites.
We have been saying for years that price comparison sites are rubbish and pander to our inerrant laziness.
However we have campaigned hard, to point out the fact that these sites do nothing to actually save you money and now they are feeling the pinch…
Which? has launched its own investigation, covering home contents, car, and travel insurance, plus personal loans and credit cards.
Cheap deals on comparison sites are – false economy if you don’t get enough cover for your needs or have to pay a huge excess if you claim”.
Specifically, Which? turned up the following problems;
1. The cheapest quotes were different on each site.
2. Different sites sometimes gave different quotes for the same insurer.
3. The cheapest quotes sometime omitted important cover.
4. The level of policy details offered by the sites varied.
The latest to feel the bite is moneysupermarket.com and its sister site travelsupermarket because current revenues are way below those achieved last year.
A further Eighty jobs are under threat at the company, based on St Davids Business Park, Ewloe and which reduced its permanent staff by around 90 last year.
The company has been hit hard by the credit crunch, which has reduced the numbers of travel deals mortgages and other financial products on offer through its channels.
A fortnight ago the company said the full scale recession had caused a 30% drop in current revenues against last year and warned at that point it could not rule out further redundancies…
Its time we realized that with a little bit of effort, you the holiday making public can undercut these sites by more than 15% just by booking direct.
