Travel News UK: The Pontins centres at Brean Sands and Prestatyn Sands will be refurbished with new accommodation, shops, entertainment, restaurant and bar facilities, subject to planning approval.
This is after we reported that the accommodation at Brean sands was in a disgusting state, when we sent our mystery shopper in for a visit, see here Pontins Brean sands.
Owners Ocean PARCs are to plough funds into refurbishing the entertainment, catering and bar facilities at all its holiday centres to coincide with the launch of a restyled entertainment programme and improved food and drink offering aimed at meeting a wider range of budgets.
Following the initial works programme, Camber Sands and Southport Holiday Centres will be completely redesigned and rebuilt. This is also subject to planning approval.
Meanwhile, capacity at the Pakefield Holiday Centre near Lowestoft will double as a result of the investment.
In total the investment is set to create more than 2,000 new jobs.
Ocean Parcs and Pontin’s chief executive Ian Smith said: “It is particularly rewarding to announce these plans which will not only generate increased tourism but create over 2,000 new jobs while the country is in a recession. Our total development costs will exceed £50 million.”
He added that the domestic park operator had seen a significant increase in bookings for half term, Easter and summer this year. He claimed this was due to the value for money offers, particularly well-known entertainment acts.

I stayed with my family at pontins Camber and I can only desribe it as discusting. Drafty windows, front door wouldnt close mould in bathroom springs sticking out of sofa bed, sofa bed covered in dust.
disgusting carpets,a large screw sticking out of my childrens wardrobe.
Thank god we only stayed the weekend. We even had to eat in nearby rye because the food and eating areas were appauling! As for activities, erm what activeities.
It was August and they had nothing. The main entertainment rooms were also smelly and dirty. The staff look bored and the uniforms look form the 60,s. Faded and unironed.I will NEVER stay at a pontins site again. EVER
