New Atol licence renewals up

If you don’t book your holiday package with an Atol bonded company then its Caveat Emptor – let the buyer beware. The highest Atol renewal rate for years has been attributed to more responsible trading, By travel companies during the recession.

Some companies offer an insurance scheme, however this is useless if you are abroad as you would have to pay for new flights and then try and claim it back. For a family this would be a nightmare scenario.

Its interesting to note that “On the beach holidays and Travel republic” are not atol bonded by the CAA.

The March renewal of licences saw 930 of the 1,002 firms being given new licences by the April 1 deadline, the biggest number for five years.

The most recent Atol Protection Contribution figures which indicate that passenger bookings for summer 2010 are slightly up on the previous year.

The CAA said companies have taken steps to remove costs and de-risk businesses during the recession following a difficult 18 months.
