Foreign Office warning only essential travel to Bangkok

Foreign office BangkokForeign office advice Bangkok: Without fear of stating the obvios – The Foreign Office has warned against all but essential travel to Bangkok after grenades exploded in the centre of the Thai capital.

Four explosions occurred near the site of anti-government protests and it is thought dozens of people have been hurt.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has called an emergency meeting with security chiefs, officials said. Deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban said three people had been killed and more than 70 wounded in the explosions.

The FCO reviewed its advice in light of ongoing political demonstrations and outbreaks of violence in city. The advice does not apply to passengers passing through Bangkok airport on their way to other destinations in Thailand or internationally.
