Diy holidays once the darling of the travel world are now becoming more and more expensive as the cost of the flights increase at an almost exponential rate.

UK holidays for less

Many UK holidays are available for less, as traditional British holiday resorts are considered rather boring with travellers seeking upmarket destinations, luxurious hotels and isolated country retreats.

Which is good news if you are looking for seaside holiday break in the UK, as overcapacity is bringing the price down.

The poll of 3,500 UK holidaymakers compared the most popular UK holiday locations and activities to give an overview of the British holiday in 2008.

The findings show that, while holidaying within the UK is still popular, British holiday breaks are much more likely to involve visits to theme parks, relaxing spas and extreme sports centres.

Eos business airline goes bust

Cheaperholidays report: US business-class airline Eos goes bust and has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, it will cease operating flights by Monday.

The firm said it had “insufficient cash to continue operations” after failing to win an investment that would have sustained the firm until 2009.

Eos was launched two years ago, flying between New York’s JFK airport and the UK’s Stansted.

Its collapse follows the demise of rival Maxjet last December.

The entire airline industry has been battling surging fuel prices, competitive pressures and declining consumer spending, particularly in the US and UK.
