For Families
You will find the locals love children, doing their best to provide kid-friendly food and babysitters on request. Restaurants open late and it is usual to find local children eating with their parents. So enjoy the big happy family and leave the intimidating stares back home!
Beaches
Most of the beaches along the Turquoise Coast shelve gently into the sea. The promontory of Olu Deniz is a case in point, as is Ataturk Park, near Marmaris. The Buyuk Cakil Beach (Big Pebble Beach) near Kas is smaller and has calm waters for easy snorkelling. Calis outside Fethiye has lots of facilities, Icmeler near Marmaris is a big family resort with watersports.
Accommodation
Marmaris and Fethiye are bigger tourist resorts with four-star hotels offering kids' clubs, while smaller places to take children include Patara (as long as your hotel offers transport to the beach as it is not within walking distance) and Kalkan, a pretty fishing village which has preserved its small-town charm. Olu Deniz is great for children as you can wake up and walk straight onto the beach if staying on the promontory.
Family Attractions
Horse-ride from Patara or from Marmaris (which also offers tennis lessons) or take a boat trip from any of the Turquoise Coast's resorts. Atlantis waterpark in Marmaris has waterslides, ringboats, a beach and bowling. The best places for watersports are Icmeler and Olu Deniz.
Marmaris offers a lively resort compared to Icmeler where you can relax in beautiful surroundings. Whether you are looking for Nightlife or just a great beach holiday the resorts below give you a flavour of Turkey at its best. Marmaris, is the largest Resort in Turkey with its distinctive Ottoman fortress overlooking the Old Town, the beach stretches out over some six miles (11km) and boasts Turkeys largest Marina.
It also has one of the region’s largest collections of bars, clubs, and restaurants and is almost a 24-hour resort, especially in high summer.
Because of grand scale Marmaris has access to all the water sports facilities you’re likely to fancy getting involved in plus a wide range of day-boat trips to quieter, more secluded stretches of the coast. Great for clubbing and shopping – especially in the Old Town’s bazaar, Marmaris has something for everyone, so if you want to Laze by the beach all-day and party all night or if you like shopping Marmaris is for you.
Hisaronu is a must for busy nights and lazy days. It offers a good selection of restaurants from Chinese to Indian to local Turkish cuisine, plenty of clubs and bars and it caters for all age groups. Entertainment plentiful and at it's busiest in July and August. From here you can travel down to Oludeniz and the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing day out.
Turunc has retained more of its charm than many of Turkey’s former small fishing villages on the Aegean coast. Surrounded by secluded coves and with reasonable water sports facilities, this resort will suit families and couples seeking the quiet life rather than the more rough and tumble of Marmaris and Icmeler.
Icmeler
Just five miles (8km) from big, bustling Marmaris, Icmeler is set on a long, curving beach offering the complete range of water sports. Better planned than some Turkish developments, there are plenty of restaurants and a reasonable amount of local nightlife, though easy dolmus bus or taxi access to Marmaris is the attraction for the younger crowd. Also easily accessible by boat is the more tranquil Turunc. Good for couples and families who like to be within reach of the big-resort delights of Marmaris.
