Es Cana Bustling and friendly, Es Cana offers a relaxed atmosphere and a lovely Blue Flag beach. Water sports are a favourite pastime, there is a good selection of cafes, bars and shops on the harbourside and the colourful weekly hippy market is always popular. Santa Eulalia Santa Eulalia and Es Cana, north east of Ibiza Town, represent Ibiza's quieter face. Unlike Sant Antoni, the main function of which is as a holiday resort, Santa Eulalia is a living, working town with a tiny rambla, a miniature version of its namesake in Barcelona; a sophisticated marina; and inland from the port, and a not-to-be-missed tree-lined avenue perfect for strolling down. San Miguel Port On the north coast of the island, this is a small resort for those looking for a family holiday or for those who enjoy a friendly atmosphere. The village of San Miguel is one of the only places on the island where you can still see the typical Ibicencan dancing performed by both men and women in typical costume and jewels. This unusual dance is performed in the courtyard of the church and followed by an arts market. Playa D'en Bossa The long, sandy, Blue Flag beach has undoubtedly made Playa d'en Bossa one of the most popular resorts on the island. With plentiful water sports and a nearby waterpark, this is a great choice for families and couples. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops too and if you fancy something more upbeat, Ibiza Town is just a 10-minute drive away. Ibiza Town Ibiza's charming capital is both cosmopolitan and culture-rich. Within the ancient walls of the cathedral and old town, the weird and the wonderful come out to play. There's fabulous shopping here, and the clothes and jewellery are irresistible. Days out Cova de Can Marca A few miles north of the village of Sant Miquel, which has an attractive hill-top church and some good tapas bars, is the tourist attraction cave complex of cova de Can Marca. The caves have been commercialised and fitted with some spectacular sound and lighting effects, providing for an entertaining guided tour. The caves are situated atop a rocky inlet and there is a good view from the cave site. La Salinas One of Ibiza’s famous landmarks are the salt flats, La Salinas, close to the airport on the southern-most tip of the island. The saltpans have been in use for more than 2,000 years, since the earliest colonists, the Carthaginians, traded in the ‘white gold’ left in the pans when water evaporates in the hot summer months. The sparkling salt lakes provide one of the world’s most beautiful sunset photograph opportunities. Formentera The tiny island of Formentera covers 35 square miles (90 sq km) and is home to just over 5,000 people. It can only be reached by ferry from Ibiza town, with a regular service running every two hours. The island is a popular day trip from Ibiza, and is relatively unspoilt by tourism development; accommodation options are very limited. The main attraction of this flat piece of land are some pretty villages and marvellous beaches flanked by palms and pines, many frequented by nudists. The best way to explore it is on a rented moped. The main port is La Sabina, and the other villages include beautiful Las Salinas, San Francisco Javier and San Fernando, all featuring quaint white-washed houses. Recommended beaches are Es Pujols in the north, Mitjorn in the south, and Cala Saona in the wild west. Other beaches of note are En Boster, Ca’n Xico Mateu and the natural port of Es Calo. The highest point on the island is in the southeast corner at El Mirador. Day Trips: Take the hour-long boat ride to Formentera Island; a Jeep tour of the island of Ibiza with some great views of the island, the aqua park at Playa d'en Bossa is a great day out for everyone.
