Holiday news advice: UK Tour operator Whitehall Leisure has gone bust and has called in the liquidators with “hundreds” of customers overseas and a further 120 booked to travel in the next month.

Whitehall Leisure also traded under the names of Barbados Journeys, Caribbean Journeys, Cyprus Direct, Eurosky Holidays, Eurosky Travel, Jet Fares and Jet Fares Direct.

From the Whitehall web site: We regret to inform you that Whitehall Leisure ceased trading on 5th February 2009.

For passengers booked to travel please contact:

A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said the CAA is still waiting to confirm the exact number of stranded holidaymakers which it believes are in the low hundreds. It is thought that many are fans currently watching the England cricket team as it tours the West Indies.

The operator went into liquidation on February 5 and accountants UHY Hacker Young LLP have now been appointed to oversee the firm’s business with it most likely being wound up.
