Whining air in the news again

Whining airI see that the Irish mouthpiece behind whining air is refusing to abide by EU regulations regarding flight delays.

EU-based airlines are now facing large bills for the food and hotel arrangements of the thousands of travellers delayed by the ash cloud.

But whining air (To complain or protest in a childish fashion) has said it will only refund passengers up to the value of their ticket price, despite EU rules which say airlines are responsible for food and hotel expenses.

I do hope they the EU fine the hell out of the obnoxios mouthpiece.

If your flight is delayed the Denied Boarding Regulation says that the airline has an obligation to offer you assistance if your delay is expected to go beyond a certain point.

What you’re entitled to:

Two free phone calls, faxes or e-mails; and
free meals and refreshments appropriate to the delay
free hotel accommodation and hotel transfers if an overnight stay is required.

If the delay lasts for five hours or more, you can choose not to travel and get a refund of your ticket cost.

When you’re entitled to it:

When a flight under 932 miles (for example, London to Venice) is delayed for more than two hours.

When a flight within the EU that is more than 932 miles (for example, London to Athens) is delayed for more than 3 hours.

When a flight that isn’t within the EU but is between 932 and 2174 miles is delayed by more than 3 hours.

When any other flight is delayed for more than four hours.
Following a recent European Court decision consumers can now claim for compensation under the Denied Boarding Regulation when there flight is delayed by more than three hours.

As with cancellation, the amount you are entitled to depends on the distance you were travelling and just how late you were arriving.
