Two key Strike avoidance meetings are being held today, With BA and Virgin atlantic which could decide if British Airways faces strike action over Christmas, and if Virgin Atlantic faces any strike action this autumn.
Virgin Atlantic is due to hold negotiations with pilots’ union Balpa today to try to avoid the first strike in the airline’s 26-year history.
The two parties are in dispute over the way Virgin is interpreting an agreement on the minimum number of rostered days off for pilots.
British Airways cabin crew, who have already taken 22 days of strike action this year, will meet at Kempton Park racecourse, near Heathrow, to discuss further walkouts in the long-running dispute over pay and working conditions.
The cabin crew, who are members of the Unite union, have pledged to wear yellow ribbons in a show of solidarity with colleagues who have faced disciplinary action during the dispute.
Unite and BA are scheduled to resume talks this week after repeated failures to come up with a deal which is acceptable to both the airline and the union.
BA’s last offer was rejected by cabin crew in July leading to the possibility of more strikes including potential walkouts over the Christmas period.
