Its important that you check your passport has at least 6 months left before renewal, to avoid that nasty shock at the airport, as you may well be refused boarding.
The UK passport agency has issued a strong warning, that Holiday makers never book a holiday or trip abroad, until a valid passport is in your possession.

These are just some of the common problems experianced before traveling.
• Not leaving sufficient time to renew their passport.
• Being turned back at their destination due to insufficient time left on their passport.
• As well as being VERY late for departures, because they can’t find their passport.
As a rule of thumb when traveling abroad, you must have at least 6 months left before your passport expires.
The 6 months before your passport expires, must be after your travel return date.

The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) said that while applications are usually returned within AROUND three weeks of receipt, people should never book travel until they have received their new passport.
