Urgent Consumer travel advice: If your traveling to Mexico on holiday or business then be advised:

The UK Foreign Office is advising travellers to Mexico to avoid large crowds in an attempt to fight the Swine flu which has already claimed 103 lives.

If the FO changes its view and advises against travel to Mexico, the travel trade would have to give money back or send uk holidaymakers to alternative destinations.

Take note: In this instance travel insurance would not be valid if a traveller fell ill in Mexico.

Cases have been reported in Mexico City and in the states of Oaxaca, San Luis Potosi, Mexicali and Baja California.

UK Travellers are being advised to consult a doctor immediately if they show signs of flu-like symptoms.

The Mexican Department of Health are urgently advising people to avoid large crowds, shaking hands, kissing people as a greeting or using the subway.

It has recommended people maintain a distance of at least six feet from other persons and claims frequent hand washing may decrease the risk of exposure.

The United States has also issued its own state of emergency after officials said it was unlikely the spread of the virus could be maintained.

The World Health Organisation issued a declaration at the weekend of an international public health emergency and called for worldwide surveillance of the spread of the virus.

UK tourists have been warned against travel to affected areas by the EU Health Commissioner, after an emergency meeting of European health officials.
