madeira travel advice>Latest travel advice for Madeira following the floods over the weekend from the Foreign office.

British nationals in Madeira should monitor our Travel Advice for Portugal. We will continue to keep the travel advice updated.

If you are planning to go to Madeira, we strongly advise you contact your tour operator or airline before travelling.

The overall level of the advice has not changed; there are currently no travel restrictions in place in Portugal..

Its been a very wet winter in mainland Portugal, and in Madeira, the geography of Madeira is a hilly volcanic island, with the huge amount or rain just running down the slopes.

It seems the spectacular rainfall of Saturday just led to a great deal of earth moving and flooding and I think it was just the awesome power of nature more than anything else which has shown itself over the last forty eight hours.
