Lanzarote travel advice: If you like wind surfing then this is just the thing for you.
The PWA World Tour Splashes Down in Lanzarote: The Professional Windsurfing Association’s World Cup Tour gets underway on Lanzarote at the end of this month.
The event extends across five days, beginning on 30th June and is taking place at the Playa Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise. Where local weather conditions and the enclosed environs of the bay produce the ideal windsurfing environment.
As the north easterly breezes that blow across the island can be harnessed by the sailors to produce amazing aerial loops and rolls, in this freestyle competition.
This year, La Santa Surf and travel group Thomson holidays have joined forces to offer specific packages to participants and spectators alike. Included in the packs are local accommodation deals for apartments in Lanzarote (2) and the surrounding rural areas.
In attendance will be the Women’s world champion, Sarah-Quita and leading male rider Marcilio Brawzhinho,– currently ranked number four in the PWA’s own 2009 Wave Men.
With numerous other ranked participants taking part. Including local favourites such as the Canaries participants the Ruano sisters and Antxon Otaegui.
The event is jointly organised by the PWA, the La Santa Surf team and various local bodies, including the Ayuntamiento of Teguise, the Government of Lanzarote and the Tourist Board for the Canary Islands.
Apart from the high adrenaline action focused on the water, there will be numerous land-based activities for spectators to get involved in. Such as windsurfing classes, wind toy workshops, massage and Tai Chi classes.
As in previous years, the event culminates in a closing night celebration, which this year goes under the name of the ‘Wind and Music Festival’.
Featuring several acts, the aim is to provide a high quality concert on which to end the competition, bringing the latest in soul music tendencies, along with jazz, funk and electronic sounds.
Artists already confirmed for ‘Wind and Music’ include the London band, The Knot, Ale Acosta, a Madrid based performer and Lanzarote musicians Ivam, deLaFUNK and Juan Fierro.
All of which will be performed during the evening of Friday 4th July close to the beach and is free of charge.
The packs also include deals for taking windsurfing, surfing and equipment hire.
