Is The countryside boring, Over half of Brits polled 56%, think a visit to the countryside is boring. In the countryside survey of 3,000 UK holidaymakers, 56% of adults said there was nothing to see or do in Britain’s countryside and found it boring.

Even a fifth of British children think the countryside is boring and the playground unexciting. This is great news for the rest us who don’t find the countryside boring, just think less traffic jams..

John Tribe, professor of tourism from University of Surrey said: “It is alarming news that over half of the nation thinks the British countryside boring and there is nothing to do or see there.

“Maybe this is because in the last decade Britons have preferred to holiday abroad and as a result; they have forgotten that holidays in the UK offer great rural holiday locations.”

The study also tested the respondents’ knowledge of the Countryside Code and revealed: only 17% of adults admitted they knew the British Countryside Code.

“Take only memories, leave only footprints.”

Countryside code:

  • Dispose of rubbish in the correct places.
  • Obey fire guidelines or restrictions
  • If having a fire, make it as small as is required and don’t cut down living trees and plants for wood. Only remove dead wood and only take as much as you need, dead wood piles provide excellent habitat for all sorts of creatures.
  • Plan ahead and follow signs when out walking, leaving property as you found it.
  • Close all gates
  • Leave livestock well alone, especially ones that are bigger and have larger horns than you.
  • Keep to paths where possible and don’t cross hedges or walls unless there are stiles or gates.
  • Always prepare for a variety of weather, especially in Britain!
    Use your common sense.
