Hotels4u and Med Hotels – Leave Abta

Hotels 4u and Med Hotels are the first to leave ABTA following the decision to force them to adopt liability for bookings…

This of-course may open up a problem with how secure your money is if you choose to book with them, and they should go bust..

The move comes following a recent vote by the association’s members to enforce all bed banks with ABTA membership to accept liability for customers bookings should an agency fail.

ABTA chief executive, Mark Tanzer, said: “We are disappointed that Hotels4U has felt it necessary to take this step.

“The resolution, which was overwhelmingly supported by ABTA members, restates a fundamental principle of agency law, in that any company, agent or principal, that sells via an agent is deemed to have taken receipt of the customer’s money at the point of sale.

“We do not believe that the step we have taken is prejudicial to any particular business model. It demonstrates the board’s commitment to consumer protection, and recognises the value of the ABTA brand in maintaining consumer confidence. “

Booked with Hotels4u at HolidayHotels.com. We took 7 days at Chika Beach Hotel in Sunny Beach Bulgaria owned by Victoria Group. My husband has a disability affecting his mobility. I made sure to call the hotel and reception refused to check my reservation. I went ahead and emailed the hotel cc the reservations at Hotels4u asking room close to the elevator due to my husband’s diability. The hotel Guest relations later on confirmed that they have received my email. We arrived next day and we were told by the hotel that there was no reservation for us and they will move us in an appartment at Victoria Palace ( hotel that is suppose to be 5 stars). It came out that we were moved in a stinky residence , not in the hotel but long walk from the hotel. We purchased ALL INCLUSIVE vacation and we had to walk in the heat to reach the restourant or get drinks. This would of been a “mission impossible” for my disabled husband. Our vacation became a nightmare and we have paid a solid price for no service. We were on a long distance on hold for 1 hour with the agency – no result , no pick up. I emailed a number of times and they did not respond. We end up our first night in a flooded mouldy room , half floor wet and mildew. My husband threataned that he will sleep at the reception, record it and publish it. Next day we were moved. My friend called the agency and they started to lie to her that we did not inform them that my husband had a disability – this was written right on the voucher. Then the agency would refuse to communicate to us. I have everythinng in writing. Please let me know if I can do anything about the above. I emailed to Thomas Cook as well. We live in Canada and I feel this is an UK RIP OFF agency. My contact email is: cathATnavynavy.com

I am really upset that I can no longer book with MedHotels.com in Turkey. I have done so for the past 6 years. I have found them excellent and reliable.

Hotels4u.com & Medhotels.com are owned by Thomas Cook so with or with or without ABTA bonding, they’re about as safe as they come. I have booked with Hotels4u.com twice before and would have no reservation in doing so again
