Greece travel disrupted again

greeceGreece who’s economy relies on travel to help clear its huge debts, has disrupted it again after Greek air traffic controllers walked out for the second Thursday morning in succession, causing disruption to flights in and out of the country.

Greece Travel and Tourism, which accounts for almost a fifth of Greece’s €250 billion economy, is being hit by the ongoing disruption.

The four-hour strike action between 0800 and 1200 GMT came after controllers cancelled earlier plans for a 24-hour strike for yesterday.

Instead they have stopped work this morning in protest against the country’s pension reforms and to call for overtime payments.

The stoppage is part of an anti-austerity strike by public sector union ADEDY, which called for its 500,000 members to march to parliament as the government votes on civil servants’ retirement rules.

Air traffic controllers did not take part in May and June walkouts, saying they did not want to further hurt the sector.
