hurricane season starts todayCaribbean Hurricane Season Dates:
Hurricane season in the Caribbean begins June 1st and ends November 30th. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins May 15th and also ends November 30th.

Most pre-season forecasts are predicting more tropical activity than normal this year.

It interesting to note that the huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Is now the site of the worst oil spill in U.S. history and the fear is that a hurricane will pick up this oil and dump it inland and or cause huge black waves that will swamp the booms trying to hold the oil spill back.

The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center division issued its seasonal outlook Friday, calling for a likely average of 18.5 named storms, and 11 hurricanes, of which five could be major cyclones with winds of at least 111 mph.

An average year would have corresponding totals of 10, six and two.

The outlook cites the cooling of Pacific waters off South America, a pattern that favors storm development in the Atlantic. Conversely, sea surface temperatures in Atlantic hurricane breeding grounds are heading for record highs, providing additional fuel for tropical storms
