BA cabin crew – loss of travel perks

To us normal individuals, the idea that if you strike means you would lose your travel perks, is well to be accepted.

British Airways Cabin crewBut not for BA cabin crew and the UNITE union who obviously live on a different planet to the rest of us…

British Airways cabin crew are to be balloted this week on whether to back a peace deal or hold more strikes.

But BA’s refusal (“quite rightly in our opinion”) to reinstate the travel perks could result in strikes.

It seems that UNITE are rowing over the removal of travel perks for members who took part in the strike action, as well as 50 disciplinary cases against union members that stemmed from their strike participation.

The Unite Union officials have admitted it was a “possibility” that more strikes could take place if negotiations broke down this week. However, they said industrial action would be a last resort.

Unite will ballot the 12,000 cabin crew this week asking whether they accept a proposal, which has been drafted following negotiations between the airline and Tony Woodley, the joint general secretary of Unite.

Cabin crew staged seven days of strikes last month, although BA kept many services running with volunteer staff and chartered aircraft.
